901 words tonight. I'm stunned at how quickly they came. I know it won't always be this easy, but I'll enjoy it when it happens.

I told hubs the plot of the story and he says it's a hard one to tackle for a first plot. I'm not sure if he's right, though he does have an uncanny sense of narrative cohesion, but I believe in this plot so much. I love the seed from which the idea sprang. I love the characters. I love the story. I hope I can do it justice.

  1. Did he give you an example of an easier plot? ALL plots are hard. Trust your vision--if it seems convoluted to him, that's just because he doesn't know the whole plan.

Or you're not explaining it well enough. Possibly because your own vision isn't yet clear. Only one cure for that, really.

    Keep writing. :)

  2. Yes, he did give an example of an easier plot, but I told him what you just said: I love this plot, and I'm going to do the best I can with it. I think he understood the plot, he just worried that it would be hard for me to execute and I'd quit. I was telling him that I was running into some concerns with the structure, specifically that the first half is an Idea story (what's going on?) and the second half is an Event story (now that I know what's going on, how do I stop it?). I know that Dan Wells did something very similar in IANASK, but it worked because it was all bookended within a Character story, which mine isn't. I did feel encouraged by the fact that almost every piece of structural input he gave, I'd already thought of and included. So he'd say, "If you do this at the beginning, you need to have this at the end," and I'd be like, "Done! Here's how that plays out."

    So I'm hoping!
